[ale] php mysql help!

I am trying to access a mysql db from php.  I am trying to change some
of the default settings in my conf files.  I cannot seem to be able to
get a connection to my local host.  I am getting this error...


Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mysql_connect() in
/var/www/html/db.php on line 3...

any ideas?
