[ale] Gnome Themes

Anyone managed to get any of the art.gnome.org themes to work with Redhat
Linux 9.0? I read through the FAQ, which states:

How do I install GTK2 Themes?

GTK2 themes can be installed using the "Theme" program available from the
menu, (Applications -> Desktop Preferences -> Theme). Downloaded themes
can be dragged and dropped into the main program window, and then selected
in the list.

I have installed several themses to ~/.themes, but they refuse
to showup in the "Themes" preference window. Does this work
for anyone?
